Roy Keane issues one word to describe Nottingham Forest's season

Nottingham Forest’s season ended with a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side needed to win to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, but ultimately, they fell short.

Recent form has just not been up to the high standards Nottingham Forest set for much of the season, and Morgan Gibbs-White’s display came in for some criticism yesterday.

Gibbs-White is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, so that may well have been his final game in a Forest shirt.

He wasn’t the only one off it on Sunday, with Chris Wood missing a couple of big chances to put the hosts in front.

Ultimately, Forest finished in seventh and confirmed their place in the UEFA Conference League, which is still a marvellous achievement considering many tipped them to be in a relegation battle.

Roy Keane has now summarised their season in one word.

Roy Keane’s one word to describe Forest’s season

Forest spent half the season in the top four and at one stage, weren’t too far behind league leaders Liverpool.

The Tricky Trees almost looked nailed to end the season in the Champions League spots, but they ran out of steam in the final few weeks.

When asked to summarise their season in one word, Roy Keane said: “Overachieving.”

Jamie Redknapp added: “Incredible.”

Whilst there’ll be disappointment around the red side of the East Midlands, that should still be the overwhelming feeling this morning, pride.

And who knows, perhaps finishing in the Conference League gives them more chance of winning the competition, thus qualifying for the Europa League.

Big summer ahead for Forest

Forest have given themselves a really strong platform to build on this achievement and attract players to play in Europe.

The added prize money will give them a much larger budget to spend, so a crucial summer transfer window awaits.

Forest are already eyeing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has a £30m relegation release clause in his contract.

Manchester City’s James McAtee could replace Gibbs-White, whilst there have been rumours about Darwin Nunez potentially joining the City Ground.

So Forest have an exciting few months on the horizon ahead of what could be another special season in the top flight and on the continent.
