Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton remains uncertain, as his contract at Goodison Park expires this summer after a tough season.

The Toffees beat Newcastle United 1-0 at St James’ Park to round off the Premier League season on a high on Saturday (25 May).

The exits of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia at the ends of their contracts have already been announced, but there remains plenty of work for David Moyes to do this summer.

Calvert-Lewin sends exit message at Everton

Everton have had a season of two halves, both of which were polar opposites to one another.

When Sean Dyche was sacked as manager, the Toffees sat just one point above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Moyes’ return pushed the Blues up to a 13th-place finish in the Premier League table, clearing the bottom three with ease.

With The Friedkin Group having taken the reins at Goodison Park, too, the future looks much more optimistic for Everton with a big summer ahead.

There is still plenty to be done, but confirmation of Doucoure’s exit allowed the opportunity for the midfielder to say goodbye to the supporters.

After Doucoure sent a message to Everton fans via Instagram, Calvert-Lewin showed his appreciation for his teammate too, commenting: “Been a pleasure bro.”

Calvert-Lewin could follow Doucoure

Doucoure’s exit may have been confirmed, but there is still plenty of work for Moyes to do in preparation for the new campaign.

Calvert-Lewin has had a campaign that has been hit by injuries, making 26 league appearances across the season.

His goal contributions in those games have been low, with four involvements across the campaign, leaving questions over the 28-year-old’s abilities.

Calvert-Lewin has had a disappointing season.

Discussions between the striker and the Toffees are happening, but there have also been links between Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle, meaning an exit could be on the cards.

The Blues cannot afford to overhaul their side completely, although Moyes will be eager to ensure that any player he retains is at the levels needed to keep up the progress made on Merseyside so far.

With a lack of attacking options to choose from, though, with Beto linked with a move away from Everton, Moyes could be forced to keep Calvert-Lewin to have as a squad player for the time being.
