Liverpool hope to wrap Florian Wirtz deal by Monday with Reds willing to strike £100million deal

Liverpool sources have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that they have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over their deal for Florian Wirtz.

Bayer Leverkusen have not put a price tag on Wirtz – but have indicated to his representatives that any deal would need to be at least €120million (£100million).

During initial talks, Liverpool have confirmed that they would pay over €100million (£84million) with a substantial amount also due on add-ons and performances.

That means that Liverpool are willing to agree a deal that would take the move to £100million.

Sources have told TBR Football that Bayer Leverkusen want to be able to confirm that they have achieved £100million for Wirtz, and Liverpool are willing to do this.

Liverpool hope to have Wirtz in England within days for his medical – with a view to completing a deal by the weekend.

What other positions Liverpool could strengthen in

So far, Liverpool have got themselves a new goalkeeper in Giorgi Mamardashvili, for whom a deal was agreed last year.

Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong is said to be closing in on a move to Liverpool along with Wirtz, an attacking midfielder who can also play on the flank.

Bailey recently confirmed that Liverpool are planning to make at least four signings, potentially five.

“Liverpool are going to have a huge summer, they are going to strike whilst the iron is hot,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football earlier this month.

“Arne Slot knows what the squad needs, not a lot but there are areas they want to improve and Richard Hughes has done his work.

“In terms of their back line, Liverpool are looking to bring in a new left-back, a new centre-back, and maybe a right-back.

“Further up the pitch, the Reds will be looking for a new striker, and then this creative player – maybe LW and CAM.

“What’s also interesting is that Liverpool want more from their midfield.

“A new No. 9 is one of the priorities, but they need to replace the creativity that they are losing in Trent and they are planning on that, as well as bolstering their defensive options.”
