Alex Moreno has hinted that Nottingham Forest will not take up their option to buy him from Aston Villa on a permanent basis this summer.

The Villa left-back joined Forest last summer on a season-long loan, which included a buy option.

He signed for Villa for £13m in January 2023, so Forest’s option to buy would have been substantially less than that figure.

Moreno’s contract expires in 2026, and he will therefore enter the final 12 months of his deal shortly.

He has made only two appearances in Forest’s last nine league games, and just four in their last 18.

On X (formerly Twitter), Moreno posted a message to Forest supporters following their defeat at home to Chelsea:

“I’d like to take this moment to say goodbye to all the fans – a wonderful crowd who always deserve the very best.

"Thank you to my teammates and all the club staff who supported me every single day.

"I’ll carry a piece of each of you in my heart.”
