Enzo Barrenechea will return to Aston Villa after spending this season on loan at Valencia.
The Premier League club signed the 24-year-old from Juventus in July of last year and sent him on loan to Mestalla in August. He took time before gradually cementing his place and impressing for the La Liga club.
Monday’s edition of Superdeporte looks at future of those players who were on loan at Valencia and this includes the Aston Villa man.
Barrenechea played 2,258 minutes from 33 games for Los Ches. Earlier this month, Unai Emery was at Mestalla and AS reported he was there to watch the midfielder live in action against in Valencia’s defeat to Athletic.
He played his last game for Valencia against Real Betis, after which the Argentine took to social media to send a message to their supporters. Superdeporte have relayed the Aston Villa owned player’s comments.
“My last game in this special shirt was a tough season, but with sacrifice, hard work, and the unconditional support of the fans, we were able to achieve our goal. This great club deserves to fight for important things. I have no doubt it will return to where it deserves to be. I thank my teammates, coaching staff, doctor, kit men, and everyone who works at this club. A special thanks to the fans, who made me feel their love from day one, and I will always hold that in my heart,” he said.
The newspaper states the South American has been one of the ‘most convincing’ Valencia players this season.
Aston Villa failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing 2-0 to Manchester United on Sunday. Barrenechea will have to return to Villa Park and Unai Emery has to decide whether to include him in his plans for next season or send him on loan again.
