SC Braga are working on appointing Manchester City assistant manager Carlos Vicens as their new manager.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of O Jogo, which reports the Spaniard will take over at the Primeira Liga club in the coming days.
Braga president António Salvador seems to be leading the operation to take the coach away from Manchester City.
On Sunday, the Citizens finished the Premier League season with a 4-2 win over Fulham, and the 42-year-old is on his way out of the Etihad.
Vicens has been Pep Guardiola’s assistant since 2021 and won the treble with Manchester City. He will now leave the English club for Braga, where the coach will sign a three-year deal, with an option for another year.
Braga will start a new era under the Spaniard and O Jogo say their ambition is to win the title, which is an ambitious aim.
Earlier in his career, Vicens spent three years between 2013 and 2016 at CE Santanyí. The fifth division Spanish club’s chairman, Tomeu Estelrich, claims the Manchester City coach will join Braga. The official announcement should follow soon.
“In 2013, the club was going through a very difficult financial period, and he was a great choice. He was very young and from the area; he was just starting out. The level of the squad was quite low, due to financial cuts, and the season was not good, leading to relegation. Nothing that changed everyone’s impression of Carlos,” he said.
“He is very methodical, with very defined game ideas and a strong commitment to a possession game. He will work very hard to take Braga to its highest point, because he is obsessed with football.”
