Aaron Rodgers Could Be ‘Waiting Out’ NFC Team Before Making Steelers Decision (Report)

It’s been months since the NFL free agency started, but Aaron Rodgers’ immediate NFL future remains up in the air. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer has yet to make up his mind amid the reported interest in him by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At the moment, the Steelers are projected to have Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback in the 2025 NFL season. Rudolph is not exactly a promising option under center for Pittsburgh and neither are the two quarterbacks behind him on the depth chart in rookie Will Howard and Skylar Thompson.

That is also why Rodgers remains a tantalizing target for the Steelers, who had Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in the quarterback room in 2024. Both Wilson and Fields are no longer in Pittsburgh, as they’re now with the New York Giants and the New York Jets, respectively.

NFL insider says Aaron Rodgers could be waiting for the Minnesota Vikings

During a recent appearance onThe Dan Patrick Show, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said that many teams believe that the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player is taking his time, as he waits for how the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation shakes out.

“There’s some teams I’ve talked to that are still kind of wondering — is he just waiting out the Vikings?” Fowler said (h/tAndrew Vasquez of Steelers Wire). “You know, because the Vikings would be an ideal scenario — one of the best play callers in the league in Kevin O’Connell, nine dome games. You’re guaranteed nine dome games per year. There’s some element of that, but checking with the Vikings — I still don’t expect that. They’re moving forward with J.J. McCarthy. So, he really has no other options, other than Pittsburgh or retire.”

The Vikings have moved on from Sam Darnold, as they now prepare to give the keys to the QB1 role to JJ McCarthy, the former Michigan Wolverines star quarterback who missed the 2024 season due to an injury.
