Get excited Nottingham Forest fans as Evangelos Marinakis' ambitious summer plans have just…

Nottingham Forest’s season ended in disappointment after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, but once the dust has settled, there will be a feeling of pride.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were in a relegation battle last season, and many expected it to be a similar story this year.

But Nottingham Forest tore up that script from the get-go and looked well-placed to qualify for the Champions League for much of the season.

Ultimately, they ran out of steam towards the end and will have to settle for UEFA Conference League football, which is still a brilliant achievement.

And now, there’s even more reason to be excited for next year, as Evangelos Marinakis’ ambitious summer plans have just been unveiled.

Evangelos Marinakis has big plans for Nottingham Forest this summer transfer window

It would be easy for Nottingham Forest to be content with what they’ve achieved this season, but that’s certainly not the case for Marinakis; he wants more.

According to John Percy of the Telegraph, the Greek businessman has big plans for the club this summer transfer window.

MORE FOREST STORIES

It’s understood that Marinakis wants to turn Forest into a club that challenges for Europe every season, he wants this to be the standard from now on.

And, crucially, he’s prepared to ‘invest heavily’ to make sure those aspirations are realised, with Percy explaining that he will ensure it’s in the framework of Premier League rules.

Shrewd business will remain part of their model, with the club keen to replicate deals like Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was signed from Chelsea for just £3m.

Forest will aim to sign five players

It’s understood that Forest will look to add five quality players to their squad this summer, with Liam Delap of major interest to Marinakis.

Forest want to hold talks with Delap over the coming weeks, though, they face competition from a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Everton.

They will likely have to replace Morgan Gibbs-White, but Manchester City’s James McAtee is already being eyed by Forest chiefs.

A deep-lying midfielder is also on the club’s radar, with Juventus star Douglas Luiz heavily linked with a move to the City Ground.

So, evidently, an exciting summer awaits Forest, who aren’t resting on their laurels.
