Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to Viktor Gyokeres and Sporting CP.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has taken to social media to send a message to former club Sporting CP - with linked striker Viktor Gyokeres handing them a potential parting gift.
The Portuguese champions were in cup final action on Sunday, as they took on Benfica. They found themselves 1-0 down in the first few minutes of the second half - and looked to be heading for defeat.
However, in the 10th minute of added time, Gyokeres was fouled just inside the box to earn a penalty for his team. He stepped up himself and made no mistake to draw his side level.
That goal took the game to extra-time and proved to be crucial, with Sporting completing the turnaround in extra-time. Goals from Conrad Harder and Francisco Trincao in either half of the additional 30 minutes saw Sporting come out as 3-1 winners and lift the cup.
Fernandes joined United from Sporting in January 2020, after three-and-a-half years with the club. The United man shared a celebratory post from Sporting showing a graphic including Gyokeres, Fernandes added a green heart and lion emoji.
It was stated by Fabrizio Romano on Sunday that the cup final would be Gyokeres' final game for Sporting. United have been heavily linked with the striker ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly eyeing a reunion with his former player.
Following Sunday's game, Gyokeres himself was not giving much away over his future. "I don’t know anything, I tried to focus on the last few games, if something is true, we'll see," he said.
Gyokeres' goal in the final meant that he ended the campaign with 54 goals in 52 appearances for Sporting in all competitions. He has also provided a further 13 assists.
