Manchester United have been eyeing up a move for talented striker Viktor Gyokeres ever since Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford back in November 2024.

The Sweden international rose to fame under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon with 66 goals and 23 assists in 68 games under the Portuguese manager.

Since their parting of ways, the two have been keen to reunite, however, with Gyokeres being one of the most in-form strikers in football right now, it was always going to be a tall ask.

Gyokeres has a £62.5 million release clause with the striker keen for Champions League football next season.

Unfortunately with United having lost the Europa League final, they’ve missed out on £100 million in revenue that would have come with the Champions League qualification.

As such, Florian Plettenberg has now reported that the pair are no longer aligning and so the deal for Gyokeres to move to Old Trafford is as good as off the table.

United have been prioritising a move for Matheus Cunha which has now been given the “here we go” from Fabrizio Romano confirming everything is in place for the move to go ahead.

With United’s limited funds going forwards and lack of European football, the Red Devils are now turning their attention to other targets deemed realistic with their current constraints.

Liam Delap is still their top option in place of Viktor Gyokeres, however he’s also joined by other long-term targets Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace, and Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca.
