Man United have reportedly agreed to pay a transfer fee in instalments for their first signing of the summer.
Manchester United will aim to be financially shrewd this summer as they look to improve their side without causing problems related to Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
The Red Devils hope to get back into Europe next season under Ruben Amorim after failing to qualify this campaign after they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham last week.
Man United secure £62.5m signing in instalments
One player that has been strongly linked to United is Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, who will hope to come in and improve Amorim’s attacking unit after a poor season from the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
The deal for Cunha was always a good one, aside from the steep £62.5m price. However, the fact that United have struck a deal meaning that they can pay in instalments, is a stroke of transfer genius.
It allows Amorim extra funds to spend elsewhere, meaning that he has more ability to strengthen his squad, especially with the likely sales of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
The instalment deal should allow United extra funds during the window, meaning they can go after other targets while working to pay Wolves £62.5m for Cunha. They are likely to sign another striker, a midfielder, a goalkeeper and a wing-back at least. Meaning United will likely have to spend big this summer. The fact that they’ve been able to strike a financially sound deal for Cunha is a huge boost.
How else could United fund their summer business?
Apart from striking deals in instalments, United will likely need to sell more players this summer in order to improve their transfer funds.
Garnacho made 36 Premier League appearances this season for United, scoring six goals and two assists. He has been linked to rivals Chelsea, but also Napoli in Serie A, with reports two months ago suggesting that the Italian side are willing to bid £67m to sign the Argentina international.
The United fans were seen to chant “viva Garnacho” at him when he did a lap of honour after their final game of the season against Villa, it may well be his last game in Red after Amorim told the 20-year-old he can leave Old Trafford this summer.
