Report: Man Utd now ready to trigger release clause of £43m striker, not Delap or Gyokeres

Manchester United are showing interest in Fiorentina striker Moise Kean ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

The Red Devils are reportedly ‘back in the hunt’ for the Italy international after missing out on Champions League football last week, which has complicated their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

United view Kean as a cheaper alternative to the Swedish striker and are said to be ‘ready to exercise’ his release clause, which stands at €52m (£43.7m) and will be active for the first two weeks of July.

Kean, who joined Fiorentina from Juventus last summer, is under contract in Italy until June 2029.

According to SportMediaset, Fiorentina’s failure to qualify for continental competition has prompted Kean to seriously consider a summer exit, placing clubs around Europe on alert.

That includes Man United, whose manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly particularly keen on the former Everton forward as he aims to bolster his underperforming Old Trafford frontline this summer.

The Red Devils have already reached an agreement to make Wolves star Matheus Cunha their first offseason signing and are expected to add a new number nine as well, with Ipswich starlet Liam Delap also earmarked as a potential option.

Kean would generate a significant profit for Fiorentina if his €52m release clause is activated, as La Viola signed the Italy international for just €13m less than 12 months ago.

The 'exceptional' 25-year-old striker previously spent one full season in the Premier League with Everton in 2019/20, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 29 appearances.
