The Pittsburgh Steelers have a bit of a question mark at quarterback right now, as Aaron Rodgers has still not made a decision.
There is a good chance that me makes one soon, but on a recent episode of the "With the First Pick" podcast, former Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon says he thinks the veteran QB has missed precious time.
"Maybe Aaron Rodgers is a little further along with this Pittsburgh decision, nod-nod-wink-wink agreement, and even what the offense is," Carthon said. "We don't know that. However, I think it speaks volumes for the rest of the team. For a guy that you're gonna be counting on as your quarterback, he's not on the field with you right now when this is the time of year that you start to build the bond."
It seems as if the 41-year-old is waiting until the last possible moment to make a decision about whether or not he will play with the Steelers, and there is a good chance there is already irreparable damage as a result.
We recognize his personal issues and we recognize that he might simply want to skip OTAs ... and we're sure Carthon is aware of all of that.
But ...
It can be argued that the No. 1 thing that a starting quarterback needs from his team is trust, and with what Rodgers is doing right now, he might not have that if he ultimately ends up in Pittsburgh.
Indeed, maybe that is one of the reasons that last year's Jets - with "team leader'' Rodgers so often doing what he wanted when he wanted, including taking a trip to Egypt while his teammates practiced - finished just 5-12.
Only time will tell if Rodgers is playing with the Steelers this season. But if he is, he is going to have to make it up to his teammates and gain their trust.
