Manchester United insiders have explained one of the biggest strengths of the club’s technical director Jason Wilcox.

There has been a lot of change and turbulence at Manchester United over the last year, with things changing constantly behind the scenes.

On the pitch, the club have had their worst season in the modern era and Ruben Amorim is under pressure to improve things next term.

The likes of Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada have taken leadership roles in the club hierarchy as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ shakeup.

Wilcox joined as the technical director but has since taken on further responsibilities after the club decided to let go of Dan Ashworth at the end of last year.

United fans were begging for years that the club brings in higher quality in these roles but the new regime have still yet to prove themselves.

Wilcox does not have tons of experience working in this role at the top level but was an expert at youth level during his time as Academy chief at Manchester City and is highly-rated behind the scenes.

A detailed end-of-season report from The Athletic has stated that Wilcox’s priority is the technical side of the game and that the executive regularly watches Amorim’s training sessions to offer a tactical bridge between coaches and the board.

Internally at United, his attention to detail on the finer points of football is viewed as a major strength. He also has a strong relationship with Amorim and speaks to him on a daily basis.

Amorim publicly praises Wilcox work

Amorim reserved special praise for Wilcox after the final game of the season on the weekend when he was asked about the performance of Ayden Heaven.

The teenager joined the club from Arsenal for just £1 million and has been excellent when on the field. He has suffered some injury setbacks but looks to be an extremely promising talent.

“Once again, Jason Wilcox is doing a great job,” Amorim told club reporters, crediting the 53-year-old for the smart signing.

“Bringing Ayden… it is these kind of players that we need because he shows a lot of character and quality after a big injury. We want this kind of player.”

Amorim and United will certainly hope that Wilcox can find more players like Heaven for the club in the transfer window this summer.
