Eddie Howe met with Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan yesterday as transfer plans…

**The Premier League season is done, and now attention turns to the summer transfer window, or in this case, windows. Newcastle United have been working hard behind the scenes to act early this year, and soon we will see if that has paid off.**

Bruno Guimaraes wasted no time yesterday in [emphasising the importance of bringing in players this summer](https://nufcfeed.com/what-a-season-bruno-guimaraes-reflects-reflects-on-his-first-campaign-as-newcastle-united-captain-1340751) to strengthen Newcastle's squad, and Eddie Howe had a very similar message when speaking to the media after the defeat to Everton.

While part of Eddie Howe's messaging was that we should act quickly to get players in as soon as possible, he also emphasised that the club are in a much better position, financially, than they were last season.

Although, in typical Eddie Howe fashion, he did distance himself from the transfer side of things.

Eddie Howe met with representatives from the PIF after Sunday's game

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Eddie Howe does seem quite put out by being removed from the transfer process these days, but he did meet with Yasir Al-Rumayyan and representatives from the PIF yesterday, so he is not wholly detached.

> “As far as I’m aware, we do not have any PSR issues heading into this deadline.“Now, I have to put a caveat in there, because I’m not seeing the figures, I’m only relaying what I’m getting told. But I think we are in a lot healthier position and a lot stronger position than we were at this time last year. We are looking to reverse what we did last summer.“This time, we are in a strong position ourselves where we’ll be looking to make additions to the squad. I will have a discussion with the chairman and representatives from PIF today, and I’m looking forward to that. We will be trying to lay some foundations for what lies ahead in the summer.“In terms of timings and everything that follows that, I don’t know, but the planning and all the things that go on behind the scenes have been there for a number of weeks now. We have been working hard to try to set things up for what we need to do.

> “I think whenever I speak to the chairman, he is very focused on success. He is focused on achieving and winning, and he always leaves me in doubt that that’s what he wants, I’m working towards that.”

It's time to see what Paul Mitchell is truly made of

----------------------------------------------------

This summer is a huge test for Paul Mitchell, whose arrival at the club last summer came too late for him to have an impact on the transfer window, and in January the club weren't in a position to spend money.

Now, with a chequebook in hand, it's time to see what our new sporting director can do when it comes to recruitment.

More importantly for us, it's time to see just how accurate the transfer stories have been this year and whether any of the targets we've covered were truly genuine.
