According to Ben Jacobs, the Blues have held positive talks to sign Liam Delap. The 22 year old has already worked with Maresca in his time at City. Hence, a agreement can reach as Delap is expected to make his final decision in coming weeks.
Delap is also wanted by Manchester United this summer. But, the Red Devils will miss European football next season. In contrast, Chelsea will play in Champions League which hands them lead in convincing top players. The 22 year old will be tempted to prove himself on top level.
Delap has already proved himself in the Premier League. This season he has scored 12 goals and picked 2 assists. These stats are not very high but Delap has achieved this while playing for Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys are relegated which makes Delap one of their rarely shining lights.
Delap can be directly trusted with starting role at Chelsea. On the other hand, he may be initially used as backup for Nicolas Jackson. Either way, the 22 year old has bright future ahead of him. He will cost £30 million which is his release clause.
