Alex Scott felt our UEFA Women’s Champions League final win was all the more impressive considering how much we’d been labelled as underdogs going into it.
Having not won the competition since 2007, we faced the tall order of going up against Spanish giants Barcelona.
But, as we’d already come from behind to eliminate Real Madrid and Lyon from Europe, internally there was plenty of belief that we could go all the way.
“It's never about me in these moments, it's about the team,” Scott told us after Monday’s trophy presentation outside Emirates Stadium. “Seeing the fans turn up to celebrate this group of players is absolutely everything and they deserve it.
“The effort that they put in throughout the season since Renee took over, everyone is seeing the difference.
“Everyone wrote this team off in the final, like they did for us in 2007, and what a way to prove everyone wrong.”

Scott went on to explain the jubilant celebrations that followed our final win long into Saturday night in Lisbon.
“It was a great party and you've got to live in these moments,” she said.
“When you make special moments happen like that, you come together more as a team and you want to relive those moments. It gives you the fire to do it all again, but it was one good party, I'll tell you that. One to remember.
“Hopefully not 18 years until the next one! Now they've got the bug, they want to do it again next season.”
