Arsenal sent £197.5m transfer warning as Liverpool land triple blow

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window.

Everyone knows the Gunners' biggest issue this season has been in front of goal, with a lack of a No.9 in the absence of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to injuries.

Arsenal were keen on adding a forward last summer and also in the January transfer window, but failed to make a signing. That was despite a bid for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins too.

But it is not just up front - with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko high on the priority list - where Mikel Arteta is expected to ask new sporting director Andrea Berta to strengthen for him.

Martin Zubimendi is set to bolster the midfield ranks, with Jorginho and Thomas Partey set to leave upon the expiration of their contract at Emirates Stadium this summer.

A new backup goalkeeper will be on the agenda, with loanee Neto to return to parent club Bournemouth. A wide forward is also an option, with the likes of Nico Williams and Rodrygo being linked with moves.

There are plenty of links, but at the moment only a move for Zubimendi to arrive from Real Sociedad looks close.

Arsenal's rivals for the Premier League title, however, are getting the job done early.

Liverpool ran away with the Premier League title this season, finishing ten points clear of Arsenal as the season drew to its close on Sunday afternoon.

And after tying Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk down to new deals, the Reds are making moves to strengthen considerably.

Liverpool are not often ones to spend big money to excess, but this summer may break from that norm. The Reds have already agreed a deal worth around £29.5million to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayern Leverkusen this summer, and Frimpong's teammate Florian Wirtz could join him at Anfield.

Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign Wirtz, ahead of Bayern Munich, and will have to shell out somewhere in the region of £126million to complete a deal for the 22-year-old. An initial bid of around £84million has already gone in.

Then there's Milos Kerkez. The Bournemouth full-back has been a Liverpool target for some time and reports have emerged that the reds are on the verge of clinching a £42million to sign him too.

The first of two summer transfer windows opens on June 1, to give clubs in the Club World Cup in America the chance to add to their squads before the tournament starts, and Liverpool could have three new faces through the door by then.

That would send a real message of intent to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City that they are not standing still and they are preparing to defend their title next season.
