Manchester City are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Reijnders for Milan, even though club director Giorgio Furlani reiterated on Saturday that the club don’t need to sell their best players for financial reasons.

The Rossoneri will confirm Igli Tare’s appointment today, and the new sporting director is expected to continue talks with the Premier League giants.

Capello backed Milan’s decision to hire Tare, but admitted the new director will have some arduous tasks, including hiring a new coach.

As for Reijnders’ future, Capello noted in an interview with Gazzetta: “The same thing happened to me when I arrived in Madrid. I told the President that I really liked Luis Enrique, too bad they had already sold him to Barcelona.

“For example, I’d never sell Reijnders, but generally, only those who genuinely want to help bring Milan back to greatness should stay. Let me add one more thing: I really hope Camarda is finally given a real chance after a year in which he was kept on the bench far too often.”

Capello was appointed as the Real Madrid coach in 1996 for his first spell at the Bernabeu, but Luis Enrique joined the Merengues’ domestic rivals that summer.

Milan finished the 2024-25 campaign outside of a European placement. Having ranked 8th in Serie A this season, the Rossoneri will be playing in the Coppa Italia first round in mid-August, starting the pre-season a few weeks before their domestic rivals.
