Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has enjoyed a successful season following his move from Old Trafford to Marseille.

The 23-year-old completed a move to the French club last summer, and has earned praise for his performances in Ligue 1. In his first season he has scored 22 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, and helped the club to a second place finish in the league behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Greenwood made a big impact in the final weeks of the campaign with three goals and as assist in the last two games, including a brace in the season finale against Rennes, as Marseille ran out as 4-2 winners.

However, there has been some speculation over his future. Some reports suggest that there has been some tension between the player and manager Roberto De Zerbi, with doubts arising over Greenwood’s long-term future at the club.

Any move away would see United receive 50 percent of any profit from Greenwood's sale. Clubs in Saudi Arabia have been linked with the attacker, while suggestions he is bound for the exit door have been played down by Marseille president Pablo Longoria.

Longoria also revealed that United are due an additional fee for Greenwood this summer. He said: "Regarding the contract situation, we bought 50% of the player's value; it was the only way to complete the transaction because they had offers higher than ours.

"Qualifying for the Champions League requires us to buy around 10% more."

Marseille have now celebrated what has been an impressive first season for Greenwood at the club. On their official Instagram channel, they have shared a montage of the player’s goals.

They have then added a caption that translates to: “Starboy. Marseille’s top scorer and Om attack dynamite, back to Mason Greenwood’s first Olympic season.”

Following the final game of the season last week, Greenwood reflected on 2024/25 with a social media post of his own. “From day one, this club welcomed me like family,” he said.

“Ending the season in 2nd and qualifying for the Champions League is something we can all be proud of. Being joint top scorer in Ligue 1 is a proud moment for me personally, but the real highlight was playing in front of our incredible fans week in, week out. Your support means the world.”

The post was ‘liked’ by a number of his former United teammates including Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
