Swedish goalscoring machine Viktor Gyokeres is ready to part ways with Sporting CP amidst interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Viktor Gyokeres has played his final game for Sporting CP. The Swedish striker is set to join a bigger club this summer amidst interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea.
After making a name for himself at Coventry City, Gyokeres made the move to Sporting in the summer of 2023 and he hasn’t looked back since. He had an exceptional debut campaign which put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.
The 26-year-old has backed it up with another sensational season where he has scored 54 goals and also bagged 13 assists in his 52 outings. Overall, he has contributed towards 125 goals in 102 matches for the Portuguese club.
He reportedly played his final game for Sporting on Sunday in the Portuguese Cup final against Benfica. The Swedish striker guided his team to another domestic double and is now set to take the next step in his career.
London clubs could battle for Gyokeres
Arsenal and Chelsea have emerged as two potential destinations for the star striker. Both London clubs want a new number nine to lead their attack starting next season and he is one of the names on their list along with RB Leipzig sensation Benjamin Sesko.
Mikel Arteta is not satisfied with the output for his current forwards. He wants a proven goal scorer to lead the line and is a big admirer of Gyokeres, who has proven himself as a world-class striker over the last two seasons.
While Nicolas Jackson has done a decent job for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea, they are still looking for an upgrade in that position. They want someone who can challenge him for a place in the XI and Gyokeres can certainly help their cause.
Both London clubs have him on their shortlist but he isn’t their priority target just yet. However, they are exploring a summer move for him. While he is protected by a €100m release clause and still has three years left on his deal, the 26-year-old has a gentlemen’s agreement with Sporting that he can leave for less than the clause.
The Portuguese club are ready to consider offers above €70 million, which is a massive boost for both London clubs who want to sign a top striker when the window opens.
