‘It’s so nice to share this with all the fans’ Beth Mead

_After Arsenal Women paraded the Champions League trophy in front of their supporters at Emirates Stadium, she spoke to a few members of the press. With thanks to Kit Shepard from the Times for the transcription._

**Did you feel that coming on and contributing was destined to happen?**

“As a player, I always wear my heart on my sleeve. I was very disappointed not to be starting but I had to make the ebay out of the situation. I really wanted to come out and make a difference in the game, and I think Stina and I very much did that.”

**Thoughts on the assist?**

“Watching the game, there were a lot of blocked shots. Both teams were putting their bodies on the line. I got it on my left foot, and I know I’ve scored ones like that before, but just for a split-second I saw the space where Stina was open up. I thought ‘I’m going to put it there.’ I think she was in a better position than me to score and luckily it got to her feet and in the back of the net.

**Who led celebrations?**

“There was quite a lot of us. I think Katie McCabe’s done a pretty good job on that one but we’ve all played hard, as you can hear from my voice, it’s been an amazing past few days.

**Josh Kroenke speech**

“I’m not going to lie, I don’t remember so much but he was very proud of us as a team. It was really nice for him to be there and support us as part of “one club”. But I think there were quite a few beverages involved by that point.”

**How does today show how much women’s football has grown in the past decade?**

“Very, very special to be able to come out and them shout your name and that many people being so ecstatic to see you, the team and what we’ve achieved. It’s so nice to share that with all the fans.

**Just the start for this Arsenal team?**

“It does, I think you’ve seen the potential we’ve got, we’ve showed a lot of snippets of it throughout the season. Now we’ve got to do that consistently and show what we’re all about.

**Party still going on?**

“Of course it does, until we meet up with the national team tomorrow.”

**How does this compare to Euro 2022 celebrations**

“These are core memories that will stick with me and the team for ever. Trafalgar Square, celebrating in front of all the fans, and now being able to do it at N5 today in front of the stadium, special moments.

**Have the things you talked about in the Players’ Tribune piece been going through your mind?**

“It’s been emotional. They’re moments I want to be able to share with my mum. I know she would have loved all of this and being a part of it, but unfortunately that’s not possible. I know she’s watching up above, I know she was with us at the weekend, and I know she’ll be proud of every single person part of this team.”
