It left Arsenal second in the Premier League table, 10 points behind league winners Liverpool, who celebrated by lifting the trophy at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Arteta will be keen to conduct the best transfer business possible to give his side the best chance of doing what the Reds have done this season.

That has begun with four players that are set to leave the club this summer. Arteta has confirmed the departures of four names. Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, Neto and Raheem Sterling – the latter two’s loan deals are coming to an end.

Arteta thanks Tierney, Jorginho, Neto and Sterling

Following Arsenal’s final day win against Southampton on Sunday, the Arsenal boss thanked the four players for the job that they’ve done during their time at the Emirates.

He said in his post-match press conference: “It was important to win it, it was important as well to say goodbye to a few players who have left our football club, to say thank you for their contribution.

“Some of them, like Kieran, they’ve been on this journey for six years with us. Jorginho, we’re trying to hug him, Neto and Raheem as well. So, there are a few players that I had the duty to say thank you to. I think we all have and we wish them the best for the next season.”

Arsenal are likely to replace at least Jorginho, as they look set to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, who has a £51m release clause at La Liga side Real Sociedad.

They will also likely sign a backup keeper to replace Neto – Espanyol’s Joan Garcia has been linked as the replacement for the Bournemouth loanee. Garcia is expected to cost around £12m.
