Former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Jon Feliciano may have retired from the NFL, but that does not mean he has stopped taking shots at the team's offensive line. In a recent social media post he did not hold back.
Feliciano took to social media in response to a post about Niners quarterback Brock Purdy defending his offensive line amidst criticism levied towards them. Purdy called his guys guarding him "war daddies," but Feliciano had a different assessment of the team's O-line.
He wrote, "Everyone on the team are first ballet [sic] hall of famers to be able to have so much success in spite of that [expletive] OL."
In case it was not clear, the expletive was not a positive one. No one can ever accuse Feliciano of not speaking his mind.
The nine-year pro got into some controversy after he went after his teammate Spencer Burford on social media following the team's heartbreaking Super Bowl loss in February of 2024. Feliciano later apologized, but his penchant for going after his teammates online has not dissipated.
Feliciano did retire, but he did leave the door open for a return to San Francisco. Perhaps this is his way of suggesting to the front office that he is the missing piece the team needs as they try and protect their franchise quarterback after his big payday.
The success of that strategy seems dubious at best especially after the 49ers recently signed two offensive linemen ahead of training camp. A reunion with Feliciano does not seem to be a high priority for San Francisco right now.
However, there are many fans who would agree with Feliciano's assessment of the team's offensive line. It was assumed that San Francisco would try and address their deficiencies up front in the NFL Draft, but they did not draft an offensive lineman until the seventh round.
The Niners still have arguably the best left tackle in the game in Trent Williams, but he is now 36 years old and may not play for much longer. Outside of him, the offensive line does not inspire a ton of confidence.
Maybe the team can turn things around in 2025 or find some sort of shakeup that will make the offensive line play as a more cohesive unit. They certainly need to do everything they can to protect Purdy in the pocket.
This is probably not the last time Feliciano will spout off on social media. Now that he is retired, he may take shots at his former teammates on a weekly basis especially given the fact that he will not have to see them every day.
