Man Utd player approached Emi Martinez when Aston Villa star was sent off, his reaction showed his underrated quality

Aston Villa player Emiliano Martinez was intercepted by one Manchester United star before he went marching down the Old Trafford tunnel on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United played Aston Villa in their final Premier League match of the 2024-25 campaign and the Red Devils secured all three points on the weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s men went into half-time with the scoreline at 0-0, but Aston Villa suffered a setback against United after Unai Emery’s side were reduced to 10 men.

Matty Cash’s poorly timed back-pass to Emiliano Martinez deep into first-half injury time allowed Rasmus Hojlund to pounce on the loose ball and he raced clear.

Martinez clattered into United striker Rasmus Hojlund in a reckless challenge and referee Thomas Bramall wasted no time brandishing a red card for the Villa No 1.

United built momentum against Villa after the break and the Red Devils broke the deadlock and took the lead at Old Trafford in the 76th minute through Amad Diallo.

Ruben Amorim’s side then ensured they ended their woeful 2024-25 campaign in winning ways after Christian Eriksen converted a penalty in the 87th minute.

United only managed one Premier League win in their last five league fixtures before the end of the season, with the Red Devils losing three of their last five league ties.

What happened between Emi Martinez and Man Utd player Altay Bayindir after the red card for the Aston Villa star?

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim rotated his first-team squad for the last match of the Premier League season, following on from the Europa League final.

Andre Onana played in United’s 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham and Amorim left him out of the squad for Sunday’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

Altay Bayindir came in place for Onana and the 27-year-old Turkish shot-stopper was fortunate Morgan Rogers’ second-half strike was controversially ruled out.

TNT Sports shared footage on TikTok of the aftermath of Emiliano Martinez receiving a red card from Thomas Bramall and his marching orders in the first half.

Bayindir showed a touch of class by approaching the 2022 World Cup winner and embracing him before Martinez continued to make his way towards the tunnel.

Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim explains why Andre Onana did not play vs Aston Villa in the Premier League match at Old Trafford

Speaking at his post-match press conference on Sunday, Amorim opened up on his decision to drop Andre Onana and instead play Altay Bayindir against Villa.

“Onana was just for Altay to have this experience and sometimes the goalkeepers nowadays, they need space to play, also to feel important, because we need two/three goalkeepers ready to play, especially when you have a lot of competition,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“And then [Alejandro] Garnacho is a Manchester United player that is not in the squad today, but is a normal player in our club and I have no news that that will change today.”

United are 15th in the Premier League table at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and the Red Devils picked up 11 wins, nine draws and 18 defeats in their league season.
