Leah on “a moment to tell the grandkids about”

Leah Williamson and her teammates will remember today’s trophy celebrations at Emirates Stadium forever.

Sharing our second European cup with our supporters at home created an emotional occasion on Bank Holiday Monday.

These results and these moments mean so much to our vice captain.

“I said before, I’ve been educated my whole life and seen with my own two eyes how successful Arsenal have been, especially Arsenal Women, and all I ever wanted to do is be a part of it so it’s very special,” she said.

“We knew it was going to be a special day but when we all walked out we were all talking to each other and saying, this is one of those moments I’m going to tell my grandkids about, so thank you for coming out!”

Alex Scott: “Everyone wrote this team off”](https://www.arsenal.com/news/alex-scott-everyone-wrote-team?utm_source=arsenaldotcom&utm_medium=embedded-article&utm_campaign=news)

Alex Scott revealed earlier in the trophy presentation that she and Leah had met up during last week to have lunch, and our defender confidently said ‘we’re going to win this.’

“I told her! I’ve been saying the whole time and all of my teammates will tell you, all I kept saying was ‘do you believe in magic’, because that’s what I could feel, I knew it was going to happen against Lyon, I knew it was going to happen in the final, and magic delivered.

“It’s a difficult task to defend against Barcelona. You all watched on the TV and you were nervous, but imagine being on the other side of that! It was a bit of an onslaught at times but we did good, we stuck at it as a team, we had a game plan and everybody delivered.

“I feel like I’m going to cry! You know what, I go out for dinner with Alex all the time, she’s one of my best mates and there’s a lot of pressure in that, when you’re looking at somebody all the time that’s done what you want to do, and trying to live up to the standards that Arsenal set. My club, my Arsenal, Champions League winners, European Champions, let’s go!”

While the curtain closes on our 2024/25 campaign, Leah is among those who have a big summer to look forward to on international duty.

“I love those UEFA Women’s gold medals, so let’s see,” she said in response to England’s chances at the Euros. “I’ve got a few teammates that would have something to say about that!”
