Manchester City say adios to a living legend as Kevin De Bruyne has played his final match for the club.
Few players have embodied the modern Manchester City era like Kevin De Bruyne. Since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2015, the Belgian midfielder has been the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s team, the metronome, the architect, and often the match-winner.
Across a period of unprecedented success for the club, De Bruyne’s consistency, creativity, and leadership have made him arguably the most important player in Manchester City’s recent history. Some say the Premier League’s Greatest of All Time.
De Bruyne’s greatest contribution to Manchester City would undoubtedly be that treble season, where the club finally won the ever elusive, but finally captured UEFA Champions League.
It was also the incredible vision, from threading impossible passes through deeeeeep back line defenses or delivering inch-perfect crosses at full pace, his ability to unlock teams is unmatched. In a side built on positional play and intricate movement, De Bruyne added exceptional pitch vision and directness. He sees space before others do and executes with precision a handful of players ever could match.
His assist numbers speak for themselves, regularly among the top assist-getters in Europe, De Bruyne has broken Premier League assist records and leaves England as perhaps the best 10 and maybe player of all time.
Kevin De Bruyne’s impact at Manchester City extends beyond trophies. He has helped redefine what a Premier League midfielder can be. Who will forget the tying of the boots as he set up what would be an incredible comeback vs. Aston Villa to win the Premier League season.
Thank you, Kevin De Bruyne
