Aaron Rodgers Gets Honest About Potentially Playing For Saints

We’re almost in June, and Aaron Rodgers is still the biggest name in the NFL without a team.

However, it’s not like he’s had a lot of options either.

Other than the Pittsburgh Steelers, only the New York Giants formally inquired about him.

Even so, with Derek Carr’s shocking retirement and the New Orleans Saints’ current quarterback situation, there was some speculation about him potentially being a target.

In a recent appearance, the controversial signal-caller shut down any possibility of playing for Kellen Moore’s team (via Adam Schefter):

“No. That’s the answer. No. I’ve played there a couple of times but no. The answer is no. I’m too old, I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry,” Rodgers said.

At this same appearance, Aaron Rodgers was asked if he’d ever consider playing for the Saints.

His response: “No. That’s the answer. No. I’ve played there a couple of times but no. The answer is no. I’m too old, I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry.” https://t.co/ESeFywtDyx

Granted, that doesn’t sound like a player who’s determined to stay in the league.

And while he doesn’t have anything else to prove at this point in his career, it’s not like he has dozens of offers just sitting at his table.

Rodgers has teased the Pittsburgh Steelers about signing with them for months now, but there are no guarantees at this point.

Since he hasn’t fully committed to playing again, they could be left with Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson in their quarterback room.

And even if he does sign with them, he will miss a big stretch of OTAs and their offseason preparation, which doesn’t bode well for someone joining a new team and a new offense.

Rodgers is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and perhaps the most talented pure passer this game has ever seen, and the lack of interest in his services speaks volumes about the league’s overall sentiment about him.
