Early in the 2025 NFL offseason, many expected the Green Bay Packers to sign one of the top wide receivers on the free agent market, or work out a trade to get an established number on pass catcher. Tee Higgins, DK Metcalf, and Davante Adams were all Pro Bowl-caliber names linked to Green Bay, even before free agency began.
However, the Packers did not acquire any of them. Instead, Green Bay used their first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on a wide receiver for the first time since 2002, selecting Matthew Golden. They also added Savion Williams in the third round, continuing their trend of giving quarterback Jordan Love young weapons to work with on offense.

Adams, of course, made a name for himself as a member of the Packers from 2014-2021. During that time, he made five Pro Bowls and was named First Team All-Pro three times. He also set or tied multiple single-season receiving records.
Since trading Adams ahead of the 2022 season, Green Bay has not had a bonified number one wide receiver. Because of this, many Packers fans believed the team might re-sign him following his release from the New York Jets. Instead, though, Adams signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
And while Green Bay did not make a formal offer to their former All-Pro, head coach Matt LaFleur recently revealed that they had thought about.
“I think anytime you have a player of that caliber, there are definitely conversations that go into it,” LaFleur said on the ‘Up and Adams Show’ last week. “Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Adams recorded his fifth-consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2024 playing for the Las Vegas Raiders and Jets. He had 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns.
