Midfielder Raphael Onyedika is one of West Ham United’s “top transfer targets” this summer, according to Roshane Thomas of The Athletic.
It has been a disappointing season for West Ham. Julen Lopetegui was hired ahead of the campaign to replace David Moyes but, despite heavy financial backing, things never clicked for the Spaniard, who was sacked by the Hammers in January. The only signing made so far by his replacement, Graham Potter, was the loan addition of Evan Ferguson.
Potter’s time at West Ham has been indifferent so far, but it would be harsh to judge a manager too quickly without a pre-season to better implement his ideas into the team. The Hammers are weighing up potential transfers already as they look to improve on such a poor term.

Key target for the Hammers
Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika
The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas has said that West Ham are immensely keen on Raphael Onyedika. The midfielder joined Club Brugge in 2022 and since then, has established himself as a crucial part of their first team. Speaking about the 24-year-old, Thomas said:
“Raphael Onyedika of Club Brugge is one of (West Ham’s) top transfer targets. West Ham are one of many Premier League teams that want to sign the 24-year-old defensive midfielder this summer. Onyedika’s deal expires in the summer of 2027, and this contract does not feature an option to extend. The Nigeria international has been a key player for the Belgian side this season, registering two goals and two assists across 51 appearances.”

West Ham are, on paper, well-stocked in midfield, even with Carlos Soler set to return to Paris Saint-Germain. Potter, despite having the likes of Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez, wants to further strengthen his midfield ahead of the new term, with West Ham having been linked to Angel Gomes in recent months.
In Onyedika, who has been dubbed a "fantastic" player, West Ham would be signing a sensational midfield player, one who would certainly adapt to the Premier League as Potter looks to push West Ham up the table once again.
