Manchester United are “well-placed” to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez in the summer, according to Football Insider.
The 2024/25 season was, without question, Man United’s worst in recent history. The club recorded their lowest-ever Premier League points tally and after losing the Europa League final, it was confirmed that the Red Devils would not be competing on the continent in the coming campaign.
Ruben Amorim, as shown in the Europa League, has gotten a tune out of the players at his disposal, but it is clear that the Portuguese needs mass reinforcement to better implement his ideas. The Reds have already been active in the market, with Matheus Cunha set to join Man United from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Now, it would seem that the Old Trafford side want to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Emiliano Martinez in action for Aston Villa
Exits from Man United are expected this summer. Winger Alejandro Garnacho has already been told to find a new club and the future of goalkeeper Andre Onana is also up in the air. Having faced struggles for form since moving to Old Trafford, Onana was not in Man United’s final match-day squad, sparking questions about his future.
Should Onana depart, then Man United may target Aston Villa shot-stopper Emi Martinez, who earns £150,000 per week. The Argentine has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the game at Villa Park since joining the club, but it appears that he may be on the move from the Midlands in the coming weeks.

In Martinez, a World Cup winner with Argentina, the Red Devils would be signing a proven goalkeeper, one who would certainly be an improvement on their current options. Whether their lack of European football or interest in Martinez elsewhere will hinder any potential deal, however, remains to be seen.
