Aston Villa have held talks about lodging an offer for Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, according to Sky Sports Switzerland's Sacha Tavolieri via Get French Football News.
Under the management of Unai Emery, Aston Villa have secured European football for the third consecutive season, a testament to the stellar work done by the Spaniard at Villa Park. Since taking over from Steven Gerrard in 2022, Emery has taken the club from strength to strength.
In the 2024/25 season, Villa reached the quarter-finals of their first Champions League campaign in four decades and went on to secure Europa League football on the final day of the term. With continental football once again on the agenda, Villa have already turned their attention to the upcoming summer transfer window.
Villa’s star goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez may leave the club this summer and if this occurs, the club will need to replace him. It would seem that the Villans already have a target in mind.

Get French Football News have reported, via Sky Sports Switzerland’s Sacha Tavolieri, that Aston Villa’s sporting director Monchi is “already in talks with Chevalier’s entourage” about a potential transfer. Excluding a season on loan at Valenciennes, Chevalier has spent his entire career to date with Lille, debuting for the senior side in 2021.

Chevalier is regarded as a highly promising goalkeeper, one who is still just in his early 20s. The Frenchman would cost Villa around £34 million, though it has been reported that Villa have not yet made a formal offer, which no doubt depends on whether Martinez leaves the club or not.
Should Martinez move away from the Midlands then in Chevalier, Villa would be signing an exceptional replacement who, reportedly, would be open to the move.
