PJ Haggerty has more than two weeks to decide whether he is going to play another season of college basketball or if he will turn pro and officially declare for the NBA Draft. Meanwhile, his $4 million transfer portal recruitment continues to unfold around him.

It took yet another twist over the weekend!

Haggerty was one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball last season. The former four-star recruit averaged 21.7 points per game at Memphis. He averaged 21.2 points per game at Tulsa a year prior.

As things currently stand, Haggerty is not expected to return to the Tigers. His future is up in the air.

The 21-year-old point guard declared for the NBA Draft in April and subsequently entered the transfer portal in tandem. Should Haggerty project as a first-round pick after his stellar performance at the NBA Draft Combine, he might choose to pursue a professional career. If not, he will return to college on a lucrative NIL deal worth seven figures. A deadline for his decision is set for June 15.

According to multiple reports, PJ Haggerty sought $4 million in NIL money for just one final season of college basketball when he first entered the transfer portal. That number likely served as a high-ball request on which to start the bidding.

The bidding war has been very dramatic. Nobody seems to know exactly who is offering what. There have been a lot of contradictory reports about this ongoing saga.

Ole Miss was in the mix for Haggerty early and a return to Memphis was not out of the equation. However, both schools pretty quickly decided to move on. North Carolina State later emerged as the most interested party with the largest financial offer and it seemed like a done deal until Kansas State also tossed its hat into the ring with a lucrative NIL deal. The Wolfpack ecentually received a commitment from Darrion Williams and backed out of the Haggerty sweepstakes which made the Wildcats the frontrunner.

However, it was reported last week that Auburn is now kicking the tires. Here is where things get spicy if they weren’t already there.

Adam Zagoria reported that “Auburn is not involved for Memphis transfer PJ Haggerty and has not spoken to him.” He also said a “return to Memphis would ‘only’ get him about $1.2 million,” implying the Tigers could rejoin the conversation. That was later discredited by Daily Memphian reporter Parth Upadhyaya.

I was told earlier this month that Memphis had rescinded its original offer to PJ Haggerty, which was worth approx. $3M.

Checked in on that again this morning with a source and was told nothing’s change. “There’s no Memphis offer” currently on the table for Haggerty to return.

Snip, snap! Snip, snap!

PJ Haggerty added to the confusion with a cryptic post to Instagram on Sunday. He shared a photo with Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway. No further context was provided.

What does it mean?! Is Haggerty going to end up back in Bluff City?!

I don’t think so. His follow-up post makes it seem as though he was just trolling all of the online chatter. The memories at Memphis are in the past.

The never-ending recruitment of PJ Haggerty is still more than two weeks from its conclusion. Things are going to change. Prices are going to rise and fall. His list of suitors will increase. His list of suitors will decrease. It all depends on which way the wind blows. Stay tuned because we’re just getting started.
