Harvey Elliott serenaded by Anfield as emotional reaction hinted at possible Liverpool exit

Sunday's Premier League 2024/25 season finale at Anfield will likely be remembered as Trent Alexander-Arnold's last game for Liverpool. The longtime Red was given a warm sendoff despite hearing jeers from the stands just weeks earlier after his move to Real Madrid was confirmed.

However, other members of the Liverpool squad may also see their time on Merseyside come to an end this summer. Midfielder Harvey Elliott's future is still completely up in the air, especially after the talented 22-year-old received just two league starts this season under new manager Arne Slot, something he admitted "has been hard."

Elliott received a warm ovation from the Anfield faithful as he lifted the Premier League trophy to the crowd. After the proceedings, he posted a heartfelt message on Instagram that many are twisting as a hint about his future.

"Memories for life! Thank you, Reds," Elliott wrote to his over two million followers. He posted himself holding the trophy, fans cheering him on, and him crying into someone's arms.

The midfielder joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019 at 16 years old after becoming, at the time, the youngest debutant in Premier League history. He played sparingly in his first year before embarking on a successful loan spell at Blackburn.

Elliott grew into a key squad player in the last few years, earning 1,352 and 1,613 Premier League minutes in Jurgen Klopp's last two seasons with the club. That number dropped to 371 minutes under Slot, though Elliott did miss the first few months of the season with a foot injury.

Elliott scored one of Liverpool's most important goals of the season: the winner in a smash-and-grab 1-0 away win to PSG in the Round of 16.

He scored his first league goal of the season against Brighton in early May and admitted his lack of minutes contributed to his up-and-down form. "It's been hard with how much I've played," Elliott told Sky Sports.

"I've tried as hard as I could and whatever happens, happens. It's about what's best for my career. It's about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I'm here at the moment and I'm focusing on the final game."

Slot's comments after the Brighton match didn't inspire too much confidence. “I have mainly chosen other players, also in part because he was injured for a long time, and I have been honest with him, the first part after he came back from his injury, he wasn't the same before his injury," the Dutch manager said. "But the last few months, he is back to his old level again."

Elliott could look for a move to a mid-table Premier League side — Wolves is one option — or seek a move abroad in hopes of securing more game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
