Former and current Manchester United players have rallied around Marcus Rashford after the forward posted an emotional message reflecting on his loan spell with Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old England international spent the second half of the season at Villa Park.

Rashford made a strong impression before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short.

Across 17 appearances, Rashford registered four goals and six assists, helping Villa in their push for Champions League football.

While Unai Emery’s side have a £40million option to make the move permanent, there is uncertainty over whether the deal will be activated.

As per Manchester Evening News, Rashford is yet to make a final decision.

United boss Ruben Amorim is not expected to reintegrate him into his plans for pre-season.

On Sunday night, Rashford posted a farewell message to Villa fans on Instagram, hinting that his long-term future may lie elsewhere.

“Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has – injury aside – been an incredible few months for me,” he wrote.

“It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch.

“Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant.

“I know it’s a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place – which everyone worked so hard all season for.

“But I know this club and team will come back stronger.”

His message prompted a wave of support in the comments.

Villa forward Morgan Rogers replied: “My brother.”

Current United players including Antony, Christian Eriksen, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana, Ethan Wheatley, Joe Hugill, and Godwill Kukonki all liked the post.

So too did ex-Reds Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

As it stands, Rashford is expected to report back to Carrington for the first day of pre-season, but his future could become clearer in the coming weeks.
