'Already been contact': Journalist says Bayern are in talks over £45m Liverpool player who Hughes is open to selling

Liverpool have enjoyed a superb season as they won the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s maiden season at Anfield.

The Reds are now set for a “huge summer” on the transfer front, with TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirming four or five new signings could be on the cards at Liverpool.

However, Liverpool could also look to sell players, with clubs eyeing some of their talents in the wake of such a fruitful season at domestic level.

Now, Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Bayern Munich are considering a move for one of Liverpool’s attacking players.

Plettenberg has taken to X to report that Bayern are now looking at Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo in their search for a “high-profile left winger”.

Bayern director Max Eberl reportedly likes Gakpo, with Plettenberg claiming there has already been contact over the 26-year-old – and it’s ongoing too.

Furthermore, Liverpool are open to selling Gakpo if a suitable offer arrives, according to the Sky Sport Germany reporter.

As things stand, the Netherlands international is said to be behind Kaoru Mitoma and Rafael Leao on Bayern’s shortlist.

How Cody Gakpo has fared for Liverpool this season

Gakpo began the Premier League season as an option off the bench for Arne Slot as he featured for less than 120 minutes in the top flight in August and September.

However, he then broke into the XI and repaid his manager’s faith with a solid run of form, especially during the winter period when Liverpool raced ahead at the top of the table.

Although Gakpo had to spend some time on the sidelines after picking up an injury against Merseyside rivals Everton in February, he was fully back in the fold by April.

The Dutchman scored in the win over Tottenham that confirmed the title for Liverpool, and also netted against Arsenal a few weeks later.

Liverpool signed Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven in the 2023 winter transfer window for a fee that could go up to £45million.

He has made 128 competitive appearances for the Reds, registering 41 goals and 17 assists.
