The forewarning of the pending ‘end of the road’ for seasoned campaigners Fabianski, Cresswell, Coufal – and Ings – meant the quartet, all of whom were Conference League winners, would all depart at the same time. Add in the loan spells of Carlos Soler and Evan Ferguson coming to an end and the season finale was certainly a dramatic day off the pitch – the three-one West Ham win on the pitch ended the results on a high if not the satisfaction levels.
Aaron Cresswell was certainly fėted by the Hammers fans as his Premier League West Ham career ended – at the home of his previous club. ‘Cressie’ spent three years at Portman Road so there was a certain symmetry to the occasion.
From a report in todays [mirror.co.uk](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/wrexham-aaron-cresswell-west-ham-35287595) it is claimed that Cresswell is already lined up as a top target by Ryan Reynolds’ newly promoted Wrexham, but they face competition from a surprising source, according to the report:
_“Aaron Cresswell is now said to be their latest transfer target after bidding an emotional farewell to West Ham….both Wrexham and Leeds are chasing the left-back’s signature ahead of his contract expiring next month.”_
The wisdom of releasing Cresswell this summer will certainly be questioned if he walks back into a Premier League side: Championship football would not be such a bitter pill to swallow for West Ham’s many Cresswell supporters. Indeed as many have mentioned, his performances in the last few weeks make the decision to part company with him a real head-scratcher. Whichever club secures his services will be getting an experienced, top, top pro.
