Horrifying scenes have marred Liverpool's open-top bus parade as footage has emerged of a car colliding with some of the thousands of fans who had lined the streets. After securing the title in late April, the team had to hold off celebrations until the season finale on Sunday, when they finally received the championship trophy.
This was followed by the trophy parade on Monday, which started at 2pm. Crowds in the thousands traveled from all corners of the country to join the celebrations, but the joyful atmosphere took a grim turn shortly after 6pm when a vehicle appeared to strike several people. Footage circulating on social media captured police responding at the scene, and an update has confirmed that a man has been apprehended.

Police Statement Released After Several Fans Hit by Car
There has been no information regarding any injuries
A statement from Merseyside Police released shortly after read: 'We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in a collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.
"The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them."
While ambulances and paramedics are at the scene of the incident, it is unclear how many people have been injured as a result of the incident.
Speaking with Sky News, an eyewitness reported that she "heard some screams," before going in more detail about what occurred.
"It was so loud. People sounded desperate. And then we looked at the window and we saw the car run over people. People started rushing (in) to try to go after the driver and they tried to break the car. Then police tried everything to block and push people away."
The incident comes the same month as Barcelona's title-clinching victory against Espanyol was halted due to a similar circumstance taking place outside the stadium, with footage being captured of a driver losing control of their car and running into several fans.
