Lavia posted a series of photos to celebrate the victory. Notably, one of them included a screenshot of Carragher with his head in his hands. It was captioned quite simply: “Next”.
The post also seemed like an impromptu reaction to Carragher’s earlier prediction that Chelsea would not make it into top five. Earlier this month, the pundit foretold that both the Blues and Forest would fall short of reaching Champions League qualification. He also predicted that Aston Villa would replace them.
However, the Blues won at City Ground. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s defeat to Manchester United and Everton’s victory over Newcastle left the Blues in fourth with 69 points.
Chelsea boss silences critics
Enzo Maresca silenced the Blues’ critics after they beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the league to grab fourth position and a spot in the UEFA Champions League. In his post-match interview with the media, Maresca slammed the doubters.
“The doubt was from outside. All the ones that have the answers or the ones that have the truth, they were saying that we are too young, we are not good enough, they were waiting for Aston Villa to drop points for us to achieve the Champions League.
“They were saying that we were not able to win on this pitch because we are too young, because we are not experienced. Unfortunately for them, they have all been wrong.”
The Blues used the youngest-ever Premier League starting lineup with an average age of 24 years and 36 days. They notably defied the odds and shut the mouths of critics who had raised questions about their experience and ability.
