Liverpool fans share'very distressing'updates from car incident in city center

Liverpool supporters have expressed their shock at the "distressing" incident of a car plowing into fans during the club's trophy parade. Emergency services were called to the scene after reports that several fans had been struck by the vehicle.

Merseyside Police have issued a statement confirming they are handling the situation. The incident occurred just before 6pm local time (1pm ET), with several individuals reportedly injured. The city's residents have been responding to this alarming turn of events, which marred what was otherwise a day of jubilation on Liverpool's streets.

@brookefulstow posted on X: "Very distressing to witness a car ramming the crowd on Water Street after the Liverpool Parade. Really hope the people that were hit are ok. Very close call for us."

@ShazSim21 said: "After a great parade with our fans. Such a sad end to a great day. I'm praying."

Talking to Sky News, one fan said: "We were like sardines walking up the street, we heard a lot of beeping and screaming and when we looked up there was a black people carrier driving straight towards. Me and my friend pulled her little girl out of the way."

A Liverpool City Council statement read: "We are currently liaising with Merseyside Police regarding an incident on Water Street in the city centre. Updates to follow."

The North West Ambulance Services statement said: "We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible."

Since the incident, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has released a statement. It reads: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.

"I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate."
