Bayern Munich are exploring several options this summer to strengthen the attack. After missing out on Florian Wirtz, Bayern are focusing on wingers to improve their options on the left flank. They have now added Liverpool forward to the list of their targets.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern are interested in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo. The Bavarian club has already held initial talks with Gakpo. The Dutch forward will be available for €50-60 million if he decides to leave the Merseyside club.
Gakpo has not been an outright first-choice winger for Liverpool this season. However, he has played 49 games across all competitions with 35% of the appearances coming from the bench. The Dutch forward has scored 18 goals this season and chipped in with six assists.
The 26-year-old primarily plays on the left flank, but he can also play down the middle if needed. He has a ferocious shot in his arsenal and good awareness in the box to score goals like a number nine. Considering he is an essential member of Arne Slot’s squad and has a contract until 2028, Bayern will have to cough up a significant fee to complete this transfer.
Bayern yet to narrow down the primary target for left flank
Despite showing interest in Cody Gakpo, Bayern Munich are yet to firm up their interest in any of their targets for the left-wing position. The Dutch international is not the only Premier League forward on Bayern’s radar to strengthen the attack this season.
The record Bundesliga champions also have concrete interest in Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma. The Japanese winger is also available at a similar price as Gakpo. Die Roten have also been linked with Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.
Bayern are also one of the European clubs interested in AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. The Portuguese winger is expected to leave the Italian club in the summer. In the past, the Bavarian club has also kept tabs on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
It does look like Bayern Munich are firmly focusing on getting the attack strengthened before the start of the Club World Cup. They have already sealed the deal for defensive reinforcement in the form of Jonathan Tah. Die Roten are negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen to get Jonathan Tah released before June 30. Meanwhile, Tom Bishchof will be part of Bayern’s squad for the tournament next month.
