Fulham fans chant for Tom Cairney to stay as Marco Silva shares ‘honest’ view on Wrexham-linked …

Wrexham now know the full lineup for the 2025-26 Championship season as Phil Parkinson begins plans for life in the second tier.

The domestic season has finally drawn to a close, long after Wrexham secured promotion to the Championship.

Phil Parkinson watched on over the weekend as Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final before Charlton Athletic saw off Leyton Orient in League One’s promotion battle.

Charlton and Sheffield United are now confirmed as the final two clubs in the Championship picture for next season, with Wrexham joining a strong lineup.

The curtain also came down on the Premier League season, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne saying emotional goodbyes.

Fulham fans make Tom Cairney stance clear

Whether the same goes for Fulham’s Tom Cairney remains to be seen.

We saw major excitement sparked earlier in May as reports suggested Wrexham were moving to sign Cairney on a free transfer.

The veteran midfielder is out of contract at Fulham this summer, and a move to Wrexham was heavily rumoured.

MORE WREXHAM STORIES

Humphrey Ker has slowed the Cairney rumours down a little, but the Scotland international will be a name to keep close tabs on.

Cairney started in Fulham’s midfield against Manchester City on the final day, but this could prove to be his farewell.

As captured by Fulhamish, Fulham supporters chanted ‘one more year, Tom Cairney’ as the midfielder left the pitch after the final whistle, making it clear that they want him to stay at Craven Cottage.

Fulham fans even voted Cairney as Man of the Match, showing their absolute love for the midfielder.

The coming weeks will decide Cairney’s future in West London, but Wrexham will be looking on with real interest.

Marco Silva on Tom Cairney future

Cairney is open to staying at Fulham, but a departure could be on the cards.

That is the view of Fulham boss Marco Silva, who believes Cairney is on his way out of Craven Cottage this summer.

As quoted by TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Silva was asked whether Cairney had played his final game for Fulham – and responded by simply stating ‘I think so, to be honest’.

Cairney told Fulham’s official website that he is ‘still in talks’ with the club over an extended stay, seemingly holding out hope that an agreement can be thrashed out.

Fulham’s retained list for 2024 came out on 5 June, so that timeframe means Wrexham won’t have to wait long to find out Cairney’s future.

The 34-year-old still has so much quality in his locker and would be a huge capture for Wrexham if Parkinson can secure his signature this summer.
