A 53-year-old man has been detained following a serious incident in Liverpool city centre, where a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians during celebrations of Liverpool’s Premier League title win.
Emergency services rushed to Water Street shortly after 6.00 pm on Monday after a car collided with a sizeable group of people.
The incident occurred as thousands of supporters gathered in the city for an open-top bus parade commemorating the league win.
Footage from the scene showed a heavy emergency services presence, including police, ambulances and a fire engine. The area was cordoned off, with debris scattered along the road.
In a statement issued Monday night, Merseyside Police confirmed: “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.
“We were contacted just after 6.00 pm today, Monday, May 26, following reports that a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.
“The car stopped at the scene, and a male was detained.”

There has been no official confirmation of the number or severity of injuries yet. The incident happened during a planned 10-mile parade.
