Newcastle United look to be in a very strong position heading into next season.
After what was surely the most historic campaign in their modern-day history, Newcastle United fans can start dreaming this summer.
Eddie Howe’s side followed up their Carabao Cup victory by qualifying for the Champions League. Now, it’s time for owners PIF to back the manager.
Newcastle could spend £150million this summer but another major boost that Champions League qualification brings is the fact it will surely help the club keep their best players.
While Newcastle are in a strong PSR position, not being able to offer their top talents the chance to perform on the grandest stage of European football would have been a blow. Had they missed out, the transfer links suggesting the likes of Alexander Isak would leave would surely only have increased.
Still, having got there in the end, Alan Shearer is feeling confident.

Alan Shearer now certain Alexander Isak is staying at Newcastle United
Arsenal wanted to sign Isak if Newcastle did not qualify for the Champions League, which obviously didn’t happen in the end.
Still, player trading is a big part of modern-day football. Even after qualifying for the competition last season, Aston Villa had to sell Douglas Luiz. When Newcastle got there in 2023, Allan Saint-Maximin was sold.

Perhaps players will leave this summer but Shearer is seriously confident Isak just isn’t one of them.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football Podcast (May 26, 2025), the Newcastle United legend said: “They’ve got to keep him.
“And they will. I’m pretty certain that because of their success this year and because they’re in Champions League football and all of those things, there’s not a worry in my mind that he’s going anywhere.
“He’ll be a Newcastle player next season because he’s a very, very, very good player.”
Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s demand about Alexander Isak
The Sweden international still has three years to run on his contract, so the club are in a very strong position when it comes to keeping Isak this summer.
In fact, such is their desire to keep hold of the 25-year-old, Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan reportedly stepped in.
Indeed, Al-Rumayyan reportedly told Newcastle executives not to sell Isak even before Champions League qualification was confirmed.
At some point, Newcastle plan to sell Isak to a foreign club. Still, for now, they need him to lead the line in the Champions League again.
Shearer is right to feel confident.
