The 2024/25 season is now over for Manchester United and all eyes can turn to the much-anticipated summer transfer window.
The campaign ended with a surprisingly impressive 2-0 win over Aston Villa, which made Ruben Amorim’s post-season speech a lot easier, as his inspiring words left fans eating out of the palm of his hand.
Amorim has set the stage for next season to be much better, promising that the ‘good days are coming’, but before this can come to fruition, a big summer awaits Manchester United.
There will be several players leaving United this summer, with three already confirmed, but Jason Wilcox has a lot of big calls to make alongside Amorim over the fate of the squad.
So with that in mind, here is our verdict on each player in the United first team, excluding those already confirmed to be gone.

Andre Onana – Sell
After the season Andre Onana has had in goal for United, there should be no shock over calls to sell him this summer. The Cameroonian has made several high-profile errors and has been a shell of the goalkeeper he was in his first season. Therefore, it is time to cut losses and sell to Saudi Arabia, with a new number one arriving.
Altay Bayindir – Sell
For similar reasons to Onana, Altay Bayindir will likely see his time at Old Trafford cut short this summer. Despite strong performances at the turn of the year, Bayindir has since conceded four to Newcastle and four to Brentford. Not inspiring confidence at all, and so selling to bring in a younger number two or promoting Radek Vitek is a smart move.
More United News
Tom Heaton – Keep
A third goalkeeper is a player unlikely to ever see the pitch and therefore handing Tom Heaton a new contract seems like a wise decision. Not only is he homegrown, but Heaton’s off-the-field qualities are invaluable, and so keeping him behind a new duo should be on the agenda.
Diogo Dalot – Keep
Under Amorim, when fit, Diogo Dalot has been a key fixture of the team, and with so many exits expected to take place this summer, the Portuguese defender should be one to remain.
Noussair Mazraoui – Keep
It is still miraculous that United managed to sign Noussair Mazraoui for just £12m last summer, since then he has proved to be very useful and his versatility will also play a big role for Amorim next season, both at centre-back and wing-back.
Ayden Heaven – Keep
Ayden Heaven is the perfect example of Ineos’ recruitment plan, costing just £1.5m the teenager has been flawless in his early United career, and Arsenal will surely be ruing their decision to let him go. Amorim has thanked Jason Wilcox for signing Heaven and it is a deal we are probably yet to see even 5 per cent of.
Harry Maguire – Keep

Harry Maguire is one of Amorim’s four irreplaceable players this summer and rightfully so as he has been excellent this season in defence.
Leny Yoro – Keep
While injuries kept him out of the beginning and end of the season, Leny Yoro has showcased enough in his debut campaign to prove why he is so highly rated, and next season should be even better.
Lisandro Martinez – Keep
Despite achieving fan favourite status early in his career at United, Lisandro Martinez will probably be on the list to sell in 2026. However, he will remain beyond this summer as he will likely spend the entirety out injured.
Luke Shaw – Sell
For Luke Shaw, time is up at United, and Ineos should be pushing for a way to get rid of the Englishman this summer, although finding a buyer will be difficult. But ideally, he will depart with the club unable to rely on the defender from his injuries.
Matthijs de Ligt – Keep
Since arriving at Old Trafford, Matthijs de Ligt has been solid in defence and will be a key figure of the team next season under Amorim, certainly one to keep… unless there is a huge offer to arrive.
Tyler Fredricson – Keep
This season saw numerous youth talents break out, with Tyler Fredricson among those to make his debut and become established within Amorim’s squad. Fredricson has been very impressive for United, and he should remain next season.
Harry Amass – Loan
This season has given Harry Amass the breakout he promised to achieve last summer. However, in his appearances, it has been clear he could do with more development, and so regular first-team football in a promoted side like Sunderland or an upper-tier Championship side could serve him well. Albeit he could easily remain as the backup.
Patrick Dorgu – Keep
At left wing-back, Patrick Dorgu will remain, having only arrived for £25m in January. Despite criticisms, Dorgu has been solid throughout the season and will only get better as he develops as a player.
Casemiro – Sell
Casemiro shot himself back into cult hero status for Manchester United with his Europa League performances. However, Casemiro’s Europa League final performance made it clear he should be sold, mainly for the wage factor.
Manuel Ugarte – Sell

When Manuel Ugarte arrived, there were concerns over his suitability for the Premier League as he struggles on the ball. This fear has proven to be true, and Amorim ended the season snubbing Ugarte from a single minute in either of the games, which makes us think the writing is on the wall and there are sure to be suitors if United are willing to take a loss.
Toby Collyer – Sell
Another breakout player during the season was Toby Collyer, as he quickly became a player Amorim trusted. However, things have since gone the other way with injuries, meaning he is right back down the pecking order. Due to this, a summer sale might be a good move for Ineos, considering it would be pure profit.
Dan Gore – Sell
It is a shame that Dan Gore’s injury problems have prevented him from getting a regular run on loan so it may be best for all involved that he is sold this summer, with a deal structured similarly to Maxi Oyedele last summer that might see United big winners if he becomes the player his potential suggests.
Bruno Fernandes – Keep
United’s star man is Bruno Fernandes, and he should not be sold unless it is an offer too good to refuse. Al-Hilal are offering £100m for Fernandes, but even this is a figure which we would not be 100 per cent convinced by. However, the way he acted after the final game against Aston Villa suggests he won’t be leaving.
Kobbie Mainoo – Keep
It has not been an incredible season for Kobbie Mainoo at United as he has been battling through fitness problems and searching for his place under Amorim. But next season, he should be an improved player next season and there is definitely a role for him in this team.
Mason Mount – Keep
Under Amorim, Mason Mount was always expected to have a big part to play, and over the last month of the season, he started to showcase exactly why. Mount appears to be a favourite of Amorim’s, and so his future seems pretty certain at Old Trafford at least this summer.
Alejandro Garnacho – Sell

Alejandro Garnacho’s time at United is over, and he only has himself to blame. Despite being an academy graduate, few will lose sleep over the Argentine’s exit. Amorim told Garnacho to find a new club over the weekend, and he was subsequently left out of the squad against Villa.
Amad Diallo – Keep
One of the brightest sparks of the season was Amad Diallo and after his big contract in January, there is no chance he leaves this summer. No matter what, Amad will be key next season for United.
Antony – Sell
He has been a revelation over in Spain for Real Betis, but this shouldn’t tempt United to keep him by any means, having seen evidence to the contrary over the past two years. Antony has a current valuation of £42m, and United should be looking to cash in.
Jadon Sancho – Sell
No explanation needed, if Chelsea don’t trigger their buy obligation, United should place Jadon Sancho right back onto the transfer list.
Chido Obi – Loan
For United, Chido Obi has been encouraging yet not convincing in his limited minutes this season; now, with heavy investment expected up front, he could find his chances limited, and so United could be inclined to find him a loan move to aid his development.
Joshua Zirkzee – Keep
Despite failing to impress as a striker this season, Joshua Zirkzee has found himself a place in Amorim’s squad as one of the number 10s. He won’t be a starter with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo potentially joining, but Zirkzee is a quality depth option.
Marcus Rashford – Sell
Set to return from his loan at Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford will be leaving this summer, and it is just a matter of when, not if. There is no place for him under Amorim, and so his exit is more than likely.
Rasmus Hojlund – Sell
The final name on our list is Rasmus Hojlund, and after a second poor season, it is time he heads elsewhere to revive his career. Hojlund leaving would be the best case for all parties, and United can then sign an alternative.
