The Bucs Have Their Future at Right Tackle Safely In Place ... Maybe

The development of Luke Goedeke in Tampa Bay doesn't appear to be complete. After struggling in his rookie season while playing guard after being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Central Michigan product continues to improve.

After moving from guard to right tackle - his natural position - ahead of the 2023 season, Goedeke has become a staple on the offensive line - and a top pass protector in the league.

While starting all 17 games in 2023, he posted an overall grade of 76.8 from Pro Football Focus. And he was almost equally effective in the pass and run games, with a 78.2 grade in run blocking and a 76.7 grade in pass protection.

Even with missing four games due to a concussion in 2024, he was able to rank No. 8 among all tackles with just 38 total pressures allowed.

Goedeke also finished No. 11 in pass blocking pressure rate at 8.1 percent.

Tampa Bay finished near the top of the league with an improved run game in 2024 - a season after finishing near the bottom in 2023.

An improving Goedeke can be at least partially credited for that.

Goedeke enters the final year of his rookie deal, a four-year, $6.178 million contract. He'll make considerably more than that on his next deal, either with the Bucs or somewhere else.

Tampa Bay also needs to start thinking about new contracts for Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield. Evans' deal is also up after the 2025 season, while Mayfield is due for a new deal after 2026.
