Liverpool are celebrating their Premier League title and have said farewell to Trent Alexander-Arnold with Real Madrid now reportedly setting their sights on Alexis Mac Allister as well.
The Reds have witnessed in the last few games how much Alexis Mac Allister provides in midfield. Without the Argentine in the starting lineup, they don’t win the ball as much and they have less direction with it.
Macca started just one of Liverpool’s remaining four games of the league season at home to Arsenal. But against Chelsea, Brighton and Crystal Palace, the league champions were very, very poor without him.
It’s no surprise given he won the ball with a tackle 95 times this season, the 6th most of any player in the league. Adding to that, Mac Allister averaged an 87% pass accuracy as he dominated the engine room for Liverpool with his smart passing.
Liverpool will not be willing to sell Mac Allister but reports now suggest that Xabi Alonso believes signing the World Cup champion would allow Real Madrid to win the Champions League again.

Xabi Alonso has already submitted his plans to transform Real Madrid and “one name appears in bold on his list of priorities: Alexis Mac Allister”, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The report states: “The player’s entourage is fully willing to change teams if the opportunity to wear the shirt of Europe’s most successful club arises.
“The player himself would be keen to join Real Madrid, aware that the leap to the elite could happen now. Although there have been no official moves yet, talks could begin as soon as the summer window opens.
“Mac Allister has the blessing of the coach. If financial conditions permit, the Argentine could be the first major signing for Xabi Alonso’s new Real Madrid.”

It’s fair to say that Liverpool did not anticipate the Trent Alexander-Arnold debacle to unfold. They made the fullback an incredible offer to stay at the club and become the highest paid fullback in history, become club captain in two years and cement his place in Anfield folklore as one of the legends.
His decision to leave and in the manner he did is saddening but his move to Real Madrid is not even the main reason why Liverpool, in my opinion, will not sell Alexis Mac Allister.
He is one of the world class players Liverpool have at their disposal and he is simply too important to sell.
Mac Allister is now in that bracket of Liverpool players that are essential.
Without Mac Allister, Arne Slot’s midfield falls apart as we saw in the games since the title became mathematically guaranteed.
