Images show a black car ploughing into crowds of fans as they enjoyed their club’s victory.

A white British man, 53, has been detained by police. There is currently a large police presence around Water Street and Dale Street in Liverpool, with pictures showing a number of ambulances.

One clip from X shows police officers encircling a car, while an angry mob understood to be Liverpool fans are held back. One man is restrained by an officer as he appears to try and throw a punch in the direction of the surrounded vehicle.

Reports have suggested there are multiple injuries with at least three people hurt.

An eyewitness shared a video showing the aftermath of the crash. Police could be seen swarming the vehicle and keeping members of the crowd away.

A caption under the video said: "Some maniac just ran everyone over. People stuck under the car got absolutely battered. Car doors ripped off."

Mr Rashid, who was there with his daughter, added: “They were just innocent people, just fans going to enjoy the parade."

His comments sum up widespread disbelief of how a day of celebration could end in such horror.

Harry Rashid, 48, from Solihull, was at the celebrations and spoke to ITV about what he saw.

“It happened about 10 feet away from us," said.

He added: “It was extremely fast. Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car."

Reports from ITV claims that 'dozens' of people have been injured in the incident.

Images from press agencies show people on stretchers, while footage taken by people at the scene shows people being hit by the car as it moves at speed.

An exact casualty count has not been confirmed by authorities.

The club posted on X: We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.

Speaking to Sky News, Chelsea Yuen, said: "We were literally like sardines walking up the street, and then we heard beeping and screaming and when we looked up, there was a black, people carrier, driving straight towards us.

"Me and my friend Francesca jumped out the way and pulled her little girl out the way."

A man has been detained by police, police have said.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.

"We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision."

Audio on the clip portrays an image of pandemonium and disbelief with panicked screams over the sound of shouts.

Distressing footage seems to show the car initially reverse slightly in the crowd, before accelerating forward. A fan can be seen on the bonnet of the car as it speeds up.

The service has said on its website: "NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, following reports of a road traffic collision. We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.

A Liverpool ECHO reporter is on the scene and claims several people are being treated at a makeshift triage station in a restaurant called Riva.

In a post on X, he said: "I’m on Dale Street where it meets Water Street, where police are dealing with a serious incident in the wake of the Liverpool title parade. A number of people are receiving medical treatment inside restaurant Riva, which has been turned into a makeshift ER."

Merseyside Police said on X (formerly Twitter): "We are currently dealing with reports of an RTC in Liverpool city centre.

"We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Mon 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male detained."
