Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of Jonathan Rowe, who is doing wonders at Olympique Marseille.
According to a report from TBR, Newcastle United are looking to bring Jonathan Rowe back to England this summer. The Magpies have been keeping a close eye on the English winger for a while now and they are ready to make a move for him this summer.
Rowe came up the ranks at Norwich and got promoted to their first team at the start of 2022. In just 18 months with the senior side, he had already made quite a name for himself. He was widely regarded as one of the best young forwards in England and multiple top clubs were keen on signing him including Newcastle.
But French club Olympique Marseille managed to strike a deal with Norwich to sign him last summer. While it was an initial one-year-long loan deal, it also had a buy obligation depending on conditions. Those conditions have been met and the deal will become permanent this summer.
The youngster has been involved in a total of 30 matches in his first season with the French club and he has contributed towards seven goals. While he has only had limited game time, he has made the most out of it. The 22-year-old has featured in his preferred left-wing position, as a number ten as well as a striker.
His performances have impressed a lot of people and there are clubs in England that want to bring him back. Newcastle are one of the clubs who are considering making a move for him this summer.
Newcastle want to add Rowe to their squad
The Tyneside club were interested in signing him last summer before he joined Marseille. Eddie Howe is believed to be a big admirer of the young winger and wants him in his team. He is keen on adding more firepower to his team after having secured a Champions League spot on the final day of the season.
While his priority is to ensure Alexander Isak continues at the club, he also seeks more quality on the flanks. Rowe is considered an ideal fit for their project with an eye on the future. But signing him won’t be that straightforward and the French giants will certainly demand a sizeable fee.
Newcastle certainly have the financial strength to make it count. Rowe could certainly be interested in joining the Magpies as they do have an exciting project and can offer Champions League football.
