The Tampa Bay Buccaneers turned heads during the 2025 draft when they selected Emeka Egbuka in the first round. Egbuka, the former top receiver out of Ohio State, joined one of the deepest groups in the league, led by Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
There's no guarantee that Egbuka will be able to impact the Buccaneers positively during his rookie season, though.
Former third-round pick Jalen McMillan is already established as a solid third option in Tampa's passing offense. The former Washington product recorded 37 catches and an impressive eight touchdowns in his first season.
With Egbuka now on the roster, Bleacher Report writer Matt Holder believes Tampa's position battle at receiver will be one of the better matchups to watch in training camp.
"It’s a good problem to have, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do have a crowded wide receiver room after using a first-round pick on Egbuka, especially if Chris Godwin is healthy and ready to play Week 1," Holder wrote.
"With Godwin and Mike Evans already in the fold, there will be an open competition for the WR3 role in Tampa Bay that the rookie figures to be a prominent fixture in. Part of the reason for that is he already operates like a veteran receiver."
McMillan was a success story for Tampa Bay last season. He was essential to an offense that lost Godwin for the year in Week 7.
Will his role diminish this season if Egbuka beats him out? While that remains to be seen, the position battle at receiver is one to watch moving forward.
